Paper plate Geese

Today we continued our Goose theme for Goose fair, we made some paper plate geese.  Arthur really enjoyed ripping and gluing the tissue paper to the goose, and Alyssa really enjoyed playing with the tissue paper also.  After we had finished making them I read Arthur the story of The Goose that laid the golden egg and used the Geese and a cut out golden egg to help bring it to life.  After that I showed Arthur how to waddle like a goose and we had fun waddling round the front room, honking really loud, making Alyssa laugh.

We then moved to the play room, where we had a whirlwind of fun and activity, ranging car driving wearing a fireman's helmet, a wonderful 'salad' for my lunch,  followed by starfish!!  Multiple cups of tea, and toast, before finishing the the morning off with a round of songs from the song sack.

A very busy day of cleaning for me today, whilst Alyssa played happily with a shape sorter, she likes taking things out of boxes and putting them back in again.   After I had finished and she had eaten lunch I remembered a game I use to set up for Arthur when I needed to entertain him and keep him in the same place.  I tied some toys to the high chair with some string, that way Alyssa could throw them off, then pull the string to make them appear again!  Arthur was a lot older when I did this with him, and Alyssa didn't understand really that she needed to pull the string to bring it back.  Alyssa really enjoys throwing things for me to give them back at the moment, and this turned into another round of that fun game, but she also enjoyed watching the toys dangling.  We also enjoyed a good old fashioned game off peekaboo and drumming on the tray.

Once we picked Arthur up and headed to the field Alyssa slept through as Arthur and I helped grandad plant cabbages and cauliflowers in the tunnel house, he helped me dig a couple of the holes and cover them back up again and also helped water the plants after.  He also found a snail crawling along and was fascinated watching it move along.

This week is Goose Fair in Tavistock, so to celebrate we have goose related activities this week.
Today I used my confetti canon from a previous post, filled with white feathers for some sensory fun, Alyssa really enjoyed playing with them, the occasional tickling attack on them also occured.  After a while playing with the feathers we then sat and read the Mother Goose nursery rhymes collection that we have.  Arthur really enjoyed doing all the actions with me, whilst Alyssa enjoyed laughing at us and listening to the songs.

Cardboard robot

Whilst daddy had the news on this morning, they mentioned it was national cardboard day and showed children building robots, so all morning Arthur kept mentioning he wanted to make robots.  So I rummaged through the recycling and found some packaging, then turned them all inside out so that Arthur had something to decorate.  Arthur then helped me sellotape it all together and then coloured it in with his pens.  He had great fun playing with the robot once it was finished saying 'I a big robot!' He then decided the robot was poorly and got his medical kit to make him better, he also decided the robot needed to go to the toilet and placed him on the potty!  Alyssa also had fun copying her big brother and scribbling on a piece of paper.

Finally managed to write about yesterdays game!

Whilst Arthur was hidden upstairs, I used his bee and flower pictures against his pop up tent, to create a 'bee hive', and used his yellow ball pool balls dotted around the room to be pollen.  I then put on The flight of the bumblebee, and told Arthur to run around and find as much of the pollen as possible and bring it to the hive.  It was a chance for Arthur to run around like mad all excited screaming "me find Kollen!!"  He was a little distracted watching the musicians play the music at first, but then once I turned it off he was off as hyper as a bumble bee. 

After the game we had a message from daddy telling us a thunderstorm was heading our way, so we sat at the window watching the rain and waiting for a while, but it never came!

Whilst waiting to go pick Nana up at the train station the two Aj's coloured in some paper plate flowers ready for tomorrow's pollen game, it was Alyssa's first time using crayons and she did really well making a couple of marks, and trying to eat the crayon! 

Soon we were off with Nana in tow, we wandered through all the stalls looking at bits and bobs, looked at some beautiful owls; we didn't think it would be a safe idea to let Arthur hold one!  Arthur was very lucky and was allowed to sit on an emergency blood bike and have the flashing lights going, which he was very delighted about.  Whilst indoors we saw bees in a hive, a model Spitfire and a working model funfair. 

Once home we had a brief break for lunch before heading to the kitchen to make Honey cupcakes,  Arthur mixed all the ingredients together and helped me put the mixture in the cases, a bit more difficult than usual as he was showing off for Nanny and kept trying to eat all the mixture!  Whilst they were cooking we sat down to make the Icing bees to decorate, using ready roll icing and an icing pen.  Arthur did really well at trying to use the pen and made special bees for the cakes for Nanny.  We then bashed up the Crunchie to put on top and made the icing, then it was time to decorate, whilst trying to avoid a toddler sneaking a bite!

It's Tunnel house Tuesday today!  Whilst Arthur was at nursery it was girly fun time for me and Alyssa, we sang some songs and practiced 'walking', (if you gently lean her from side to side a little she will lift her foot forward!)  And Alyssa watched me clean the house whilst playing with the hand held hoover, (we like to train them young in this house!) Whilst I was was washing the dishes she entertained me with some music (noise!) as she happily played with pots and spoons banging away and working out how to take the lid on and off.  It was so interesting watching her figure things out, and putting things in the pot and taking them out again, posting things through the jam funnel and banging away happily.

Once we picked Arthur up we headed to the field to the tunnel house, where we sifted the soil where the tomato plants had been to remove any stray tomatoes, and scrubbed the inside of the tunnel house walls, and generally started to prepare it for getting winter vegetables planted.  Poor Arthur got very wet and muddy whilst we walked around the field by falling into a puddle, but it didn't seem to bother him, and it didn't stop him jumping in more puddles!

The fun and games haven't stopped yet for me today, Alyssa has decided that this time of night is the perfect night to be wide awake and playing a game of drop the toy and whinge till mummy gives it back, this blog has taken me over half an hour to write so far!!
